The finale of “The Office” will feature most, but not all, of the show’s characters gathering together a few months after the documentary about their lives airs.
Not present will be Michael Scott (Steve Carell), who as far as we know is happily living in Colorado with Holly. Executive producer Greg Daniels has said several times that Carell didn’t want to distract from the farewell to the other characters, and he reiterated those comments Wednesday (May 1) in a chat with reporters.
“Steve felt, which I agree with, that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode [in Season 7] was his goodbye, and he didn’t want to overshadow the endings that the other characters deserved after all these years,” Daniels says. “I think he made a good call. Obviously it would be wonderful to have him back, but you know.”
The series finale of “The Office” is scheduled for May 16. The NBC show airs an hour-long episode Thursday (May 2) starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.
