steven moffat emmy sherlock gi Steven Moffat wins first Emmy Award for 'Sherlock,' gives adorable speech“Sherlock” co-creator Steven Moffat absolutely did not expect to win Outstanding Writing for a Mini-Series or Movie for the Season 3 episode “His Last Vow,” but he managed to pull off a pretty adorable speech even though he didn’t prepare one at the 66th primetime Emmy Awards. After thanking the BBC and Hartswood Films, he thanks the two most important people in his life: Wife Sue Vertue and writing partner Mark Gatiss.

“A huge thanks to my brilliant sexy producer whom I also married, and although I would marry him, I haven’t married Mark Gatiss,” Moffat says. “He should be up here because every word of ‘Sherlock’ is done to him as well and I apologize to him for not being up here at the same time. Thank you so much, this is utterly thrilling.”

Also, a note to whoever writes the Emmy winner lead-ins, Moffat doesn’t “write for the revised version of ‘Doctor Who,'” he is its showrunner.
Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch won the Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries or Movie and Martin Freeman won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.
