The two people playing Louis Litt’s parents on the Thursday, Aug. 16 episode of “Suits” should get along with actor Rick Hoffman pretty well — they’re his real-life parents, Gail and Charlie
Hoffman, making their acting debut.
Hoffman tells Entertainment Weekly that it was actually “Suits” creator Aaron Korsh who suggested Hoffman’s non-actor parents for their roles. He thought they were funny when they were visiting the “Suits” set one time, and asked Hoffman if they’d be willing to cameo in one of Louis’ Skype video chats with his mom and dad.
matter what set she’s been on over the last 12 years, my mother always
finds a way to get in the way. Not in a bad way,” Hoffman tells EW.
While she was watching her son film a scene with costars Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams, she audibly giggled — a no-no on a TV set. “All of a sudden, I hear a giggle out of my left ear. I’m thinking to myself as I’m doing my scene, Is that her? If that’s her, I’m gonna kill her. She
did it three times. She thinks she’s in, like, an airplane with
earphones on watching a movie in her seat. Thank god, she did not ruin a
take. But Aaron thought they were a riot. Everyone loved them.”
He continues, calling it a “special experience” to be able to work with his mom and dad. “Aaron had the idea that Louis and his parents use Skype. ‘Do you mind
having your parents do it?’ I was like, ‘Nope. Don’t mind at all.'”
