super bowl nipplegate janet jackson justin timberlake gi Super Bowl XLVIII: From Nipplegate to a blackout, what could go wrong?Although nothing quite as scandalous as nudity has occurred in the Super Bowl halftime shows since Nipplegate — which was an astonishing 10 years ago — there is plenty of opportunity for something to go wrong.

Though there hasn’t been any accidental nipple-flashing at the Super Bowl in the decade since, that doesn’t mean the shows have gone flawlessly. Fans have learned there’s plenty of opportunity for disaster, especially at the first outdoor winter-weather Super Bowl ever.

Here’s a quick rundown of the most recent Super Bowl-related incidents:

– While Beyonce practically shut down the Superdome with her amazing halftime show in 2013 — brief Destiny’s Child reunion included — a blackout at the Superdome early in the third quarter delated the rest of the football game for more than a half hour. Maybe the glowing force field of awesome surrounding America’s Queen (Queen Bey, obviously) did a number on the electric lines surrounding the field and they just couldn’t handle so much fierceness at once. The world may never know! (Well, actually, Entergy New Orleans says it was a faulty electrical relay device — A LIKELY STORY.)

Madonna‘s big show went off pretty well in 2012. Well, except for M.I.A.‘s anti-establishment middle finger, which was broadcast to innocent television-watchers across the country. MIA later said she was making a spiritual gesture, and didn’t really seem very sorry when the NFL later sued her for $1.5 million.

– Of course, those incidents pale in comparison to the accidental nipple flash during Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake‘s “wardrobe malfunction” in 2004. Remember the days before that was a term that people actually used?

The 2014 halftime performer, Bruno Mars, has some ultra-racy songs. What do you think could go wrong this year?
