surviving evil charisma carpenter tca investigation discovery 'Surviving Evil': Charisma Carpenter hosts show on survivors of violence“Surviving Evil” isn’t the only true-crime show on television. But it may be the only one that focuses on those who survived violence and tells the story from the survivors’ point of view. Three of those survivors participated in a presentation for the TCA press tour.

One of the most interesting parts of this show is that it is hosted by Charisma Carpenter (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel”) — and that she herself is a survivor of a violent crime. She was attacked as a teen and held at gunpoint before escaping and then leading the police to the criminal.

Two other survivors — Teri Jendusa Nicolai and Lisa McVey — accompanied Carpenter on the presentation stage. Nicolai survived an attack by her ex-husband, while McVey survived a kidnapping by a serial killer. The women’s rather harrowing stories are all featured in “Surviving Evil.”

“Surviving Evil” premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 10pm on Investigation Discovery.

Quotes from the presentation:

  • “Whatever they’re going to do to you alone is going to be 10 times worse.” – Charisma Carpenter
  • “Your chances of survival are greater if you fight immediately.” – Carpenter
  • “In the end, it shows us being strong and overcoming — overcoming evil … It doesn’t necessarily show us as victims.” – Teri Jendusa Nicolai
  • “If I was going to be found dead, I wanted people to know I left my mark.” – Lisa McVey on leaving evidence after her kidnapping
