During “Orange Is the New Black” star Taylor Schilling’s appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” Tuesday (July 22), comedy took a short break. Schilling and Letterman instead spent a moment talking about the state of prisons in the United States.
“The idea is to find alternatives to incarcerations,” Schilling explains, due to overpopulated prisons. Letterman adds, “Contractors lobby the United States government for the rights and money to build new prisons. To build new prisons, you have to keep the laws enforced and the prisons full. It’s a crazy thing.”
Not to stray too far away from the funny, Letterman offers his best solution: “Let’s just say we switch to an adopt-a-prisoner program. I would consider adopting you, if you were a criminal.” The idea definitely pleases Schilling. Now she just needs to break a law or two.
