sheldon amy cbs 'The Big Bang Theory': Jim Parsons talks about Sheldon's relationship with AmyAs fans of “The Big Bang Theory” know, Dr. Sheldon Cooper is more than a little awkward around women. And he’s certainly never one to express feelings about them…until now.

On Thursday (Nov. 16), Sheldon goes into a jealous fit after finding out his “girlfriend” Amy (Mayim Bialik) is on a date with Stuart (Kevin Sussman), the lowly comic book store employee. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon on the CBS comedy, was as surprised as anyone that his character displays this emotion.

“It’s funny that he even felt jealous,” Parsons says. “It’s a very rare emotion for him to have in regard to other people. He’s felt biting and b****y about scientific matters, but about the attentions of another human being, he doesn’t really care.”

It’s been a long road for the quasi-relationship between the two geniuses. The biggest problem is their divergent opinions of what they want from each other. While Amy has definite carnal desires, Sheldon is awkward (and likely disinterested) even when cuddling on the couch. But Parsons praises producers for how they’ve brought the relationship along, as strange as it is.

“I’ve enjoyed this whole introduction of the Amy character. It’s just this odd connection that they have. It’s not that it’s odd that so fun, it’s that there is one,” the two-time Emmy winner says.

But with Thursday’s episode, it’s clear that Sheldon is willing to take this next step. The only problem is how the two each interpret what “next step” means.

“It’s one of those things that’s two steps forward, one step back with these characters,” Parsons says. “In this episode there’s a tremendous step forward in this acknowledgment of a relationship…But I just wonder how much that really means actual change.”

He hints that the two will continue to be an item, but under mutually agreed upon and legally binding terms.

Why are we not surprised Sheldon would demand this?
