the challenge dustin eliminated 'The Challenge: Free Agents': Dustin opens up about his elimination and breaking his hookup pact with Heather One of the strongest competitors was eliminated in week two on “The Challenge: Free Agents,” making it clear to all the players that this season is really anyone’s game. But the eliminated guy Dustin isn’t all that upset about getting sent home early.

Zap2it got Dustin on the line to talk about his early elimination, breaking his hookup pact with his ex-girlfriend Heather, and whether or not he kept up his flirtation with Jessica after leaving the house. Check out the full Q&A below.

Zap2it: So eliminated in week two. How are you feeling about getting sent home so early?
Dustin: It is what it is, you know? What happens is meant to be. That’s just the kind of person I am. But it definitely hurts and it definitely didn’t help that I had to go up against my arch enemy in the elimination either. So as much as I was fine with going home, it was like, “Did you have to go home under Frank’s hand?” But at the end of the day, it is what it’s supposed to be. I did two challenges and went home on the second one but that’s not the end for me. I will see another “Challenge” one day.

You’re definitely becoming one of the veterans to beat, that’s for sure. That’s why I was so surprised to see you go home in week two.
Maybe I was supposed to cut out early because me and Jessica got involved real quick. Things became hot and heavy by week two. So it was probably good that I got out early before that developed into anything bigger than what it was. I’m a newly single person and I’m trying to live my single life. I’m not under someone’s hand anymore with Heather so I’m trying to branch out and bloom on my own. I never had any intentions to move into the house and get into a new relationship. If I would have stayed longer, who knows? Maybe Jessica and I would have gotten too far involved to not be in a relationship.

Did you receive any backlash for breaking your “no hookup” pact with Heather in week two?
[laughs] Back to that promise. Why did I make that promise? I went into the house after telling Heather, “I’m not going to hook up with anyone in the house.” But you have got to know that when we broke up, I stopped following her on all social media sites. She didn’t necessarily stop following me but I didn’t want to know what’s going on with her daily life. So I made that pact with her, but when I got to the house, Sydney, literally everyone bombarded me with, “Oh, did you see Heather’s new boyfriend? She’s Instagramming about him.” So I had this pact to not embarrass her, but why? She’s got this new boyfriend! She’s obviously not looking out for me in the same way. So to be honest Sydney, that pissed me off. Everybody was making fun of me for making this pact with her because I looked like an idiot. So I was like, “Forget that. I’m going to look after me from now on.” I’m not looking out for Heather’s feelings anymore because that was just hurting me.

You breaking the pact sounds pretty justified, then, since she kind of already broke it on her side.
Exactly! It hurt when everybody was like, “She’s got a new boyfriend already.” I was like, “Oh, crap. Dagger to the heart.” And Jessica and me, we were vibing and talking and everything was cool but I was trying to keep my distance. But even Nany was like, “Dustin I’m like your sister. I wouldn’t lead you the wrong way. But Heather’s doing her, she’s not looking after you. I know you made this pact but you should do what you want to do.” So that’s exactly what I did! From that moment on I was like, “Forget about that pact. Jessica’s cute and fun to talk to.” So I looked at her and talked to her and made out with her.

Did the flirtation go any further … ?
We didn’t bring it too far. I got out early enough before we got too involved. I didn’t cross the line with Jessica. You know what I’m saying, Sydney! [laughs] If I would have slept with Jessica, that would have been a slap in the face to Heather. It was cute and innocent. I was doing me! That’s where my head was at.

Did you keep in contact with Jessica after leaving the house?
Me and Jessica kept in contact for a little while, and then a girl I was talking to back home, we got interested in each other and then when Jessica went home … Listen. Jessica’s not the type of girl that’s going to keep in contact with a guy she likes and not be his girlfriend. But she lives in North Carolina, I live in New Orleans, and I definitely did not want to do another long distance relationship. And I’m not ready to do another relationship within the “Real World”/”Challenge” family. I’m not saying I won’t ever get into another relationship in that family because that just happens. We all understand the crap we go through and we’re all trapped in a house together. But as far as for now, I’m just chilling.

Good for you. Let’s talk about your elimination now, because you and Frank were seriously neck and neck during that entire round. Were you glad the round was so close or would you rather have lost with a wider margin?
As much as me and Frank don’t like each other, he’s a good competitor. After we saw the girls go and saw how the challenge worked, we looked at each other and we knew it was a toss up game. One of us was going to win but we knew it was definitely going to be close. I was glad it was close and I didn’t get my a** whipped. But it still sucked to lose to Frank.

Do you think if this season was a different format and not “Free Agents” that you would have stuck around longer?
Here’s the thing, I’m not a big politics player. Like, I would tell my partner to take care of the politics, and I’ll make sure we win. But this time there wasn’t any partners and when I got to the house, right off the bat everyone said, “We need to get rid of all the strong players first.” I just came off of a second place win and I didn’t know that many people in this house. So they saw me as a strong competitor that’s easy to send in early. I knew I had a target on my back. I knew it was going to be a tough road for me. And to be honest, I would rather get out earlier than fight a losing battle and not make it to the finals anyways, while burning a lot of bridges on the way there. I would have had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way and that would piss off a lot of people.

That’s a good point.
Yeah, so I’m out early, and next “Challenge” I’ll have a teammate or a team or something. As far as this season, I’m not that disappointed. But I’m going to miss all those games! That race car game, and walking on the side of the building, that’s awesome. I wanted to stick around to do all the challenges because they’re so fun but I had to take what life threw at me. Can’t win them all, Sydney!

Well at least you played admirably and respectably this time around.
Thank you! Always. Of course I was angry at first but it is what it is.

“The Challenge: Free Agents” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
