cw logo The CW snags reality shows: 'Star Next Door,' 'Breaking Pointe,' and 'The Catalina' added to summer slateThe CW hasn’t exactly found success with its reality slate — the only reality show to survive longer than a season on the network has been “America’s Next Top Model,” which is, of course, the last holdout from the network’s UPN origins.

Still, reality television has a certain appeal to network execs (hey, it’s cheap!) so it’s no surprise that The CW keeps trying. President Mark Pedowitz announced on Monday that the network has picked up three more reality series for its summer programming slate, to add to the already ordered “Oh, Sit” a high-stakes game of musical chairs. (Seriously.)

“The Star Next Door” is a music competition series, because there aren’t enough of those on television, led by Queen Latifah with expected appearances from music legends across the genres — including Gloria Estefan and John Rich.

“Breaking Pointe” explores the competitive world of Salt Lake City ballet company Ballet West. “Beneath the beauty and glamour of the dance and costumes is a gritty
dog-eat-dog world of extreme athleticism, focus, dedication, passion,
pressure and, of course, the hunt for the unattainable… perfection,” reads the release.

Finally, we’ll meet the staff of Miami hotel “The Catalina,” a party destination. According to The CW, the young people who work at the hotel party just as hard as its guests. They’re a “fun-loving” “dysfunctional family unit.”

No word on whether The CW plans to introduce scripted programming to its summer line-up, which they’re hoping will provide a promotional platform to help launch its new fall series.
