Considered one of the great American novels, “The Great Gatsby” is about to be brought to life on the big screen once again. This time at the helm is Baz Luhrmann (“Moulin Rouge,” “Romeo + Juliet”) and taking over for Robert Redford’s Jay Gatsby and Mia Farrow‘s Daisy Buchanan from the 1974 version are Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, production begins this week in Sydney, Australia, with Isla Fisher and Tobey Maguire also on hand to star in the film. Luhrmann says of the production, “Fitzgerald’s story defies time and geography. The vision and the goal
of our remarkable cast and creatives is to do justice to the deftness of
Fitzgerald’s telling, and illuminate its big ideas and humanity. This
is our challenge and our adventure.”
Filming will last 17 weeks, with over 400 cast and crew estimated to work on the project. The film will be distributed in both 3D and 2D. The release is scheduled for November 2012.
