the hour canceled 'The Hour' canceled by the BBC after two seasonsTime has run out for “The Hour,” which has been pulled from BBC2 — and BBC America — after two seasons.

Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, so barring an unexpected revival, fans of the show likely won’t find out whether Freddie (Ben Whishaw) lived or died and what he whispered to Bel (Romola Garai) in the final scene of Season 2.

The show’s first season earned creator Abi Morgan an Emmy nomination for writing and three Golden Globe nods — for best miniseries or TV movie, actress in a miniseries (Garai) and actor in a miniseries (Dominic West). Season 2 also scored a Globe nomination for best miniseries.

The show’s ratings in the U.K., however, took a tumble in its second go-round. The audience fell by about 50 percent compared to Season 1, which led to the cancellation.

“We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through,” the BBC says in a statement.
