Warning: This video is somewhat NSFW, due to it being from HBO.
“The Leftovers,” Damon Lindelof’s (“Lost”) adaptation of Tom Perrotta’s bestselling novel, focuses on the aftermath of 2 percent of the world’s population disappearing. A full trailer for the HBO series shows just how traumatic it will be, even three years later.
Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka and more star in the series as New Yorkers left behind when friends and loved ones vanish with no trace and no explanation. From the trailer video, it’s clear that popular reactions to whatever happened include all-consuming grief, memorial ceremonies, sex (this is HBO, after all), violence and random bar conversations.
There are also a bunch of white-clad people who walk around smoking cigarettes and bugging everyone else. That is probably as important as it is mysterious.
HBO has also released an official poster for the upcoming show:
More explanations will (hopefully) come when “The Leftovers” premieres Sunday, June 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
