the new normal key art 'The New Normal' canceled, joins NBC's comedy graveyardNBC, continuing the purge of their comedy division, has canceled first-year series “The New Normal.”

The semi-autobiographical comedy from “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler is the last of the Peacock network’s comedies to learn its fate, joining Tuesday companion “Go On,” among many more, in the trash heap. Of the 11 comedies to air on the network this year, only “Parks and Recreation” and “Community” earned renewals.

“The New Normal” starred Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells as a gay couple starting a family via surrogacy. The show, Murphy’s first half-hour comedy, also starred Georgia King, Bebe Wood, NeNe Leakes and Ellen Barkin.

The show earned a full-season order in October, while it and “Go On” were benefiting from a strong lead-in via “The Voice,” however ratings fell off when the singing competition took its winter break. The April season finale was written to serve as a potential series finale, ending with the birth of Bartha and Rannells’ baby.

NBC has picked up six new comedies in advance of unveiling its full 2013-14 lineup on Sunday (May 12).
