originals leah pipes girl in new orleans 'The Originals': Leah Pipes says the show gets 'brutal and gruesome'Being the mere mortal on a show filled with vampires, werewolves and witches is a harder job than it seems. You have to be ignorant of the supernatural forces around you without looking like an idiot, not to mention the fact that you get to do far fewer cool things (flashbacks, fight scenes, nifty special effects). Leah Pipes plays the token human on The CW’s “Vampire Diaries” spinoff “The Originals,” but she doesn’t just stand by while her co-workers get to be badasses.

Pipes’ Cami is a psychology student by day, bartender by night, and right now not fully aware of the supernatural situation in New Orleans. But don’t think it’ll stay that way for several seasons (looking at you, Matt Donovan). “Cami can’t be a wide-eyed blonde bartender forever, because then that’s just not even a character,” Pipes tells Zap2it.

Cami will become wise to what’s happening, and she won’t stand by while everyone tries to deceive her. “There are a lot of girls watching this show. We need to show how [women] fight back,” she says

originals joseph morgan leah pipes cami klaus 'The Originals': Leah Pipes says the show gets 'brutal and gruesome'In Tuesday’s (Oct. 22) episode, “Girl in New Orleans,” we’ll learn just how much of a fighter Cami is as she bonds with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and opens up about the true reason she’s in New Orleans and why she’s so interested in studying psychology. “I’m so pleased with where they are taking my story,” Pipes says. “As an actor, you have no control over what the writers and the executive producers decide to do with your character, and what they’re doing with Cami is so wonderful and great and I’m just very thankful to be on this show and getting to tell this great story to everyone.”

No specifics yet — you have to wait to see the episode — but just know Pipes describes upcoming plot twists as “brutal and gruesome, and also really cool.”

“The Originals” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
