“The Simpsons” makes fun of everyone else, so why not Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” trilogy? In the show’s latest couch gag, wonderfully titled “The Cough Gag: Part One of Six,” the family goes on an epic adventure.
Along the way they encounter Gollum Moe, Dragon Mr. Burns and even Bart’s ghostly schoolmates, all in an effort to get to the couch. The couch gag will air as part of the November 3 episode of the show, “Four Regrettings and a Funeral,” which deals with the death and funeral of a Springfield citizen.
This is not the episode featuring a major character death, which has been teased by executive producer Al Jean. “The Simpsons” airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
