cassadee pope the voice top 6 'The Voice' video: Cassadee Pope does 'Stand' and 'I'm With You' for Top 6 performancesOn Monday night’s episode of “The Voice,” Blake Shelton’s contestant Cassadee Pope — considered by many to be the fan favorite, if not exactly a critical darling — took on two different genres of music. The former lead singer of Hey Monday was a little bit country with Rascal Flatts’ “Stand,” building on the success of her “Over You” performance. She also stuck with her pop-punk roots when she dipped into the Avril Lavigne catalogue for “I’m With You.”

“Stand” was Shelton’s choice. Though it’s undeniably a country favorite, the arrangement that Pope sang ventured into pop territory. The song won Christina Aguilera over — and without any of her own contestants, Aguilera was free to lend her support to whoever she chooses.

“I just don’t mind being your co-coach supporter at this point. You won me over, Cassadee … You’re on the money … I love what you represent, I love that you have a story, I love that you represent yourself. You’re an all-around true star of the show,” Aguilera said.

Adam Levine expressed his jealousy at the fact that Pope didn’t choose him at the beginning — but he says he’s hoping to see something more adventurous. He’d like to see something “different and bizarre” from her.

When she had the chance to choose her own song, she went for “I’m With You,” a poppy, slightly punk ballad that closed out Monday’s show. “Cassadee, I know that you’re committed to something when you put your hand in the air like that. I’m always looking for that sign of physicality,” Cee-Lo Green said. “Yeah, she did a great job.

Levine added, “That was my favorite performance of yours … I love that song … I thought it lent itself to the show and your vocal ability. Blake gets no credit for this choice. You did a fantastic job, my favorite of the night.”

“You can’t coach somebody how to have a connection to a lyric of a song,” Shelton said. “You have to be born with that.”
