Maybe big pharma has a soft side after all.
Many (us included) thought the reason Kanye West changed the name of his song “Theraflu” to “Way Too Cold” was because he was getting pressure from Novartis, the parent company of Theraflu. But according to TMZ, the firm says they had nothing to do with the change.
The company says in a statement, “Novartis Consumer Health did not ask that the name be changed – that request would be way too cold.” Cute.
This is a marked change in tone from the first time the firm spoke on the matter. When the song first came out under its original name, they were mighty miffed about it saying in a statement, “We in no way endorse or approve of the references or use of the image and likeness of Theraflu in this manner.”
Novartis’ assertion they didn’t pressure West to make the change matches up with West’s statement that the “Way Too Cold” switch was a “creative decision.”
