tim tebow quitter jets response gi Tim Tebow 'quitter?' Jets quarterback calls accusation 'disappointing'Tongues have been wagging over Tim Tebow, as usual, but this time he’s standing up for himself. First, Jets coach Rex Ryan skipped over the backup quarterback to start third stringer Greg McElroy when starter Mark Sanchez was benched. Now that McElroy is injured, Ryan skips Tebow again to go back to Sanchez, who arguably has thrown away the season for the Jets.

Now along with talks of an impending trade or release at Tim’s request, come accusations that Tebow is a quitter. It’s been reported Tebow asked Ryan to let him out of the special teams wildcat formation, which has been the only play Tebow is used in all season.

The QB spoke up for himself at a press conference, transcribed on the Jets website.

“I never said I don’t want to do anything or I won’t do anything. That wasn’t the talk at all,” says Tebow. “[Ryan] knows that and everyone on the team knows that. I would never not do something if I was asked.”

Tebow continues, “I think that’s what’s disappointing in the whole situation, people saying, “Oh, you quit,’ or ‘You didn’t do this.” That was not it at all. It was just asking to get an opportunity to play the position I love, which is quarterback. It wasn’t me asking out of anything.”

Hopefully this will be all be a moot point soon, and Tebow can put the lost season of his career behind him, by moving on to a team that will let him play. Does anyone wonder what on earth the Jets were thinking when they traded for the guy?
