true blood bill season 6 'True Blood' renewed for Season 7 Brian Buckner to return as showrunner

Though viewers still don’t know if Bill Compton will be able to concoct a new version of Tru Blood that allows vampires to walk in the sun, they can at least rest easy knowing HBO’s hit “True Blood” won’t die the true death at the end of Season 6. HBO announced in a press release that the adaptation of Charlaine Harris‘ novels will return in Summer 2014 with a Season 7.

“‘True Blood’ remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers,” HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo says in a statement. “Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.”

Buckner will remain showrunner of “True Blood” in Season 7. He took over the reins on “True Blood” in Season 6, and thus far the season has been a fun and wild ride. As Season 6 carried over pretty directly from Season 5, it will be interesting to see if Season 6 will come to a neatly-tied conclusion or if it will spill over into Season 7.

Zap2it will be attending “True Blood’s” San Diego Comic-Con panel on July 20, so stay tuned for any talk about what Season 7 will be about. “True Blood” airs Sundays on HBO at 9 p.m. ET.
