true detective season 2 filming hbo 'True Detective' Season 2 will start filming very soonThere might be little concrete news on the “True Detective” Season 2 front, but that hasn’t stopped HBO from moving forward with the project. HBO programming director Michael Lombardo says filming is expected to begin in September, and he’s already read the first two scripts.

“We’re going to start shooting in September for it to air next summer,” he says at the Edinburgh TV Festival, via The Hollywood Reporter. “[It has] different characters, a different setting. It’s set in California, all of California. There are three cops. One of the characters is female. I think that’s probably all I’m allowed to say. We’ll probably be announcing casting soon.”

In addition to the first two scripts, Lombardo has also read outlines for episodes 3 and 4. “When you have a success like ‘True Detective’ it’s challenging, less for us and more for someone like Nic [Pizzolato], how to face the page again and start afresh and not be haunted by the success of the show you’ve just done,” he says. “But the writing is better than last season. It’s exceptional.”

According to reports, actors Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Elisabeth Moss are expected to play the three cops. Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn is expected to play Season 2’s primary antagonist.

In addition to a more ensemble cast, Lombardo also says that the plan is to use “three or four different directors” for Season 2 instead of just one, like Cary Fukunaga in Season 1.
