The 2014 Billboard Music Awards were up an average of a million viewers over the 2013 awards, earning the best numbers since 2001. The awards broadcast averaged 10.5 million viewers to give ABC a slight win over CBS for the total viewers crown. ABC’s margin was much larger over CBS for the 18-49 demo win.

Elsewhere, the season finales for “The Amazing Race,” “The Good Wife” and “The Mentalist” were all up an average of 600,000 viewers for CBS, while the Animation Domination lineup on FOX was down slightly across the board.

ABC eked out a win in total viewers with 9.5 million and a 5.6 rating/10 share in households to CBS’ 9.2 million viewers and a 5.8 rating/10 share in households. FOX was third with 2.99 million and a 1.8/3, and NBC trailed with 2.1 million and a 1.5/3.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, the BBMAs helped ABC dominate with a 3.0 rating, followed by CBS at 1.4, FOX at 1.3 and NBC at 0.6.
