jessica sanchez idol judges save TV ratings: 'American Idol' results rise Thursday, 'Scandal' holds steady in week twoFast National ratings for Thursday, April 12, 2012

Pre-show buzz about a “shocking” result on “American Idol” Thursday may have driven some viewers to the show, as it improved significantly on last week’s numbers. Episode 2 of “Scandal” on ABC, meanwhile, scored pretty much identical ratings to its premiere last week, and “Grey’s Anatomy” also ticked up from last week’s season low.

The return of “The Office” after several weeks of reruns, however, didn’t really do anything for NBC, finishing fourth in its half-hour in adults 18-49. The rest of NBC’s comedies, however, were up slightly, possibly helped by a lineup of mostly reruns on CBS.

Thanks to “Idol,” FOX led the night in viewers with 11.8 million, along with a 7.3 rating/12 share in households. CBS (8.8 million, 5.5/9) came in second, a little ahead of ABC (8.05 million, 5.4/9). NBC was a pretty distant fourth with 3.2 million viewers and a 2.0/3. A night of repeats on The CW drew just under a million viewers and a 0.6/1.

FOX also won the 18-49 demographic with a 3.2 rating. CBS took second with a 2.4, followed by ABC at 2.1. NBC averaged 1.3 and The CW 0.4.
