The TV-watching public got over its New Year’s hangover in a big way Thursday, as a number of original shows improved on their performances from a week ago.

“The Big Bang Theory” led the night, per usual, scoring its biggest total audience ever for a regularly scheduled episode and its best 18-49 rating in 11 months. “The Millers” also scored a total-viewer high for the season, and “Elementary” put up its best numbers since the start of the season.

Elsewhere, “Community” improved on its season premiere, and “Parks and Recreation” hit a season high in adults 18-49 for NBC (the rest of the network’s lineup rose too). “The Taste” also grew some for ABC.

CBS’ 12.1 million viewers and 7.4 rating/12 share in households beat the combined total of the other four networks. ABC finished a very distant second with 3.95 million viewers and a 2.6/4. NBC (3.6 million. 2.3/4) came in third. Both FOX (2.4 million, 1.5/3) and The CW (945,000, 0.6/1) went with repeats.

CBS also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 3.0 rating. NBC took second with a 1.2, beating ABC’s 1.0. FOX scored a 0.7 and The CW a 0.3.
