emmys 2013 ratings gi TV ratings: Emmys rise Sunday but can't dethrone 'Sunday Night Football'Fast National ratings for Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013

Ratings for the Emmy Awards on Sunday improved a good amount on last year’s numbers, thanks in no small part to a big lead-in from a late-afternoon NFL game on CBS. The awards did not, however, overtake NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” as the night’s top show.

The Emmys, which aired live across the country, are currently up by about 4 million viewers and more than a point in adults 18-49 vs. last year’s awards, although ratings fell each hour. The numbers will change some in the final nationals, but they will finish ahead of 2012.

“Sunday Night Football” was down a little from last week, but the Chicago Bears-Pittsburgh Steelers game carried NBC to a win among adults 18-49. ABC and FOX basically took the night off.

CBS drew 16.3 million viewers and a 10.0 rating/16 share in households for the night, pending updates for its live telecasts. NBC (15.2 million, 9.1/15) currently sits in second. ABC (3.3 million, 2.1/3) and FOX (2.6 million, 1.6/2) were both well off the pace.

NBC led the 18-49 demographic with a 5.5 rating, beating CBS’ 4.8. FOX posted a 1.1 and ABC a 0.6.
