Football continues to reign supreme as we close in on Superbowl Sunday. Last night’s AFC Championship game between the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers was the highest rated AFC Championship since 1987, when the Denver Broncos beat the Cleveland Browns in overtime.

Otherwise, ratings across the board were soft on a very quiet Sunday night.

The game helped CBS climb to an average
of 40.9 million viewers with an 21.5 rating/33 share in households. FOX’s comedy block drew an average of 5.3 million viewers (3.1/5), ABC had 5.1 million (3.3/5), and NBC’s “Sex and the City” lead-in only attracted an average of 3.5 million viewers (3.1/5).

In the key 18-49 demo, CBS lead with a 14.4 rating, followed by FOX (2.4), ABC (1.3) and NBC (0.8).
