The State of the Union address took over most of primetime on the big four networks Tuesday. CBS and FOX staked out the top spots in viewers and adults 18-49, respectively, thanks to reruns of “NCIS” and “American Idol” in the hour before the president’s annual address.

Numbers for the big four will change some with adjustments for the live broadcast, but CBS currently leads the night with 8.4 million viewers and a 5.5 rating/8 share in households. FOX (7.4 million, 4.4/7) came in second, followed by NBC (6.55 million, 4.2/6) and ABC (5.4 million, 3.5/5). The CW went with regular programming and averaged 1.1 million viewers and a 0.7/1.

Thanks to “Idol,” FOX led the 18-49 demographic with a 2.6 rating. NBC finished second at 1.9. CBS’ 1.6 was good for third, beating ABC’s 1.4. The CW came in at 0.5.
