voice-s5-premiere-rtgs.JPGFast National ratings for Monday, Sept. 23, 2013

The first official, Nielsen-measured night of the 2013-14 TV season belonged to NBC. “The Voice” premiere improved on the debut ratings for both of last season’s cycles, and “The Blacklist” easily led its hour among adults 18-49. The latter opened slightly below “Revolution” last year, but “Revolution” also debuted against lighter competition.

The news was less good for CBS Monday. “How I Met Your Mother” improved on last season’s premiere, but “2 Broke Girls” was down a good amount. That led to new shows “Mom” and “Hostages” both posting underwhelming ratings. ABC’s “Castle” was up a little over its 2012 premiere, while “Bones” and “Sleepy Hollow” each fell a bit against the heavier competition.

NBC led the night with just under 14 million viewers and an 8.3 rating/13 share in households. ABC (12.7 million, 8.3/13) came in second overall. CBS (8.3 million, 5.3/8) beat out FOX (7.6 million) for third. The CW was a non-factor with 726,000 viewers and a 0.5/1 with a night of repeats.

The 18-49 title also went to NBC, whose 4.6 rating was almost two points better than the 2.7 for second-place CBS. FOX came in third with a 2.5, followed by ABC, 2.3, and The CW, 0.2.
