haves and have nots own Tyler Perry brings OWN strong ratings; 'Big Brother After Dark' switches networksTyler Perry‘s drama series “The Haves and the Have Nots” was hammered by critics who watched its premiere on OWN Tuesday (May 28), but it brought pretty good ratings to the channel.

The show about members of a wealthy Southern family and the people who work for them scored the biggest series premiere in the channel’s history with 1.77 million viewers. A second episode rose slightly to 1.8 million viewers.

Perry’s second series for OWN, a comedy called “Love Thy Neighbor,” premieres Wednesday night.

– “Big Brother After Dark” is changing networks. After several years airing on Showtime, the companion to CBS’ “Big Brother” is moving to TVGN (also owned by CBS Corp., along with Lionsgate). Two-hour episodes will air at midnight seven days a week starting June 26, the night of “Big Brother’s” premiere.

– The Daytime Emmy Awards have named Betty White, Wayne Brady, Steve Harvey, Bethenny Frankel, Alex Trebek, Kris Jenner and Todd Newton as presenters at the June 16 ceremony. The awards are set to air on HLN.

– The Esquire Network has a new launch date. The rebranding of what is now G4 will happen Sept. 23 with a prime-time special celebrating its namesake magazine’s 80th anniversary. The show will launch with seven original shows and repeats of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “Parks and Recreation” and other shows.

– “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown will make a return appearance on TV Land’s “The Soul Man” this summer. She’ll reprise a role from last season as Sherman’s (Cedric the Entertainer) former neighbor. [Hollywood Reporter]

– Animal Planet set an all-time ratings record Monday — with a hoax. “Mermaids: The New Evidence” followed up on a highly rated special last year and drew 3.6 million viewers, a record for the channel. If you watch the end credits closely, though, there’s a disclaimer that the show is fiction. [EW]
