wizarding world of harry potter Universal Hollywood's 'Harry Potter' theme park to begin building in summer 2013

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is coming to Los Angeles, and work will begin on the new addition to Universal Hollywood in late summer 2013. This is the first step of NBCUniversal’s recently announced 25-year Evolution Plan.

The longterm $1.6 billion investment will create more than 30,000 jobs in the Los Angeles area and generate $2 billion in economic activity, the company announced in a press release. “After nearly a decade of work on the Evolution Plan, today’s vote sets the stage for our next 100 years in Los Angeles. We are thankful for the support and leadership we have received from both the County and City of Los Angeles and are ready to get started investing in these important tourism and production projects in the next few months,” president and COO of Universal Studios Ron Meyer says in a statement.

The expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to the company’s Hollywood theme park was announced in December 2011. The plan is to have it operational by 2015, so it’s no wonder building will begin this summer. The “Harry Potter” land is already a part of Universal Orlando, which is currently building an expansion to its Wizarding World.

It’s unclear what entirely will be included in Hollywood’s Wizard World, but one of the main attractions will be the Hogwarts Castle. In Orlando, the castle houses the “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” ride, and it’s assumed the same will be the case in California. NBCUniversal says “the Hollywood experience will be faithful to the visual landscape of the fiction and films, including Hogwarts castle that will serve as the centerpiece of the impressively themed environment.”
