ESPN is reporting that former Florida head football coach Urban Meyer has taken the vacant Ohio State football head coaching job. Meyer stepped down from the University of Florida in 2010, citing health concerns and wanting to spend more time with his family.
Meyer won two national titles while at Florida. The Ohio State job, which was held by interim coach Luke Fickell, was vacated six months ago when Jim Tressel was forced to resign amidst a scandal that involved players trading autographs and the like for services at a tattoo parlor.
Pat Forde at Yahoo! has some strident words in regards to the “Urban myth” and Meyer’s reputation, implying that he left Florida merely because of professional struggles and that his claim of spending more time with his family wouldn’t hold weight if he took a job a year later at another program, which is exactly what he will be doing if the Ohio State reports are true.
