Russian President Vladimir Putin is back on the market, ladies. It was announced Thursday (June 6) that Putin and his wife of nearly 30 years, Lyudmila Putina, are seeking a divorce, the Associated Press reports. They broke the news during an address on state television.
“It was our joint decision,” Putin says. He also points out, “We practically never saw each other.” Lyudmila rarely joined her husband on the long trips he made as president, explaining, “I don’t like publicity and flying is difficult for me.”
Even without a marriage, the two are linked by their daughters, Maria and Yekaterina. “We will eternally be very close people,” Lyudmila says before adding she’s thankful for the support she received from Vladimir. The could married on July 28, 1983.
