the walking dead 102 steven yeun andrew lincoln 320 'Walking Dead': Robert Kirkman wants Stephen KingAMC’s zombie franchise “The Walking Dead” won’t be back on TV until October, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about it. Or that Robert Kirkman, the creator of the comic book on which the series is based, can’t either.

And that’s exactly what he did on Saturday (May 7, apparently Free Comic Book Day) when the Hollywood Reporter caught up with him at an event. Kirkman wasn’t too forthcoming, but he did put to rest some rumors about the show firing its entire writing staff and relying on freelancers.

Not true, says Kirkman.

“We have a full writing staff,” he said. There are three full-time staff writers and a freelancer: Evan Reilly (“Rescue Me”), Scott Gimple (“FlashForward”) and Angela Kang (“Terriers”) and one freelancer.”

He wasn’t, however, able to give much of an update on whether or not Stephen King — a fan of the show — will be penning an episode.

“I can neither confirm nor deny,” said Kirkman.

He did divulge that production hasn’t started yet, though scripts are “completed.” Season 2 will pick up pretty much where we left off — with Rick Grimes and his caravan pulling away from the CDC.

We can’t wait.
