For some shoppers, the glorious day has arrived and it’s even a little early. Twinkies have begun appearing on store shelves around the country.
They are only available in Walmart stores, and only 1,600 of them at that. The cream-filled sponge cakes are being sold in collectible boxes that read “First Batch,” according to a New York FOX affiliate. You can get your own box of ten for $2.98.
Company spokeswoman Veronica Marshall says Twinkies will be in 3,000 of their stores by Sunday, which is still one day ahead of the official July 15 launch. Hostess will also be reintroducing other treats in their lineup, including Zingers, CupCakes, Ding Dongs and more.
The Twinkies returning to stores are a bit different than the ones fans remember. They taste the same, but formula has been changed to allow for a longer shelf life.
