At Saturday’s (May 30) annual White House Correspondents Dinner, emcee Seth Meyers had no idea how close to home he was hitting when he made a joke about the long-sought Osama Bin Laden.
“People think bin Laden is hiding in the Hindu Kush,” quipped Meyers, “but did you know that every day from 4 to 5 p.m. he hosts a show on C-SPAN?”
Meyers meant to suggest, we suppose, that C-SPAN’s round-the-clock coverage wouldn’t attract enough viewers to notice. Apparently he hasn’t spent much time inside the Beltway.
In any case, watch as President Obama — who surely was aware of the operation led by U.S. forces then underway to kill Bin Laden in Pakistan — reacts. We’ll officially label it a hearty guffaw. News of Bin Laden’s death was released by the White House the next day.
