With over 21 years of broadcasting experience on ESPN, Stuart Scott has perhaps his most important televised moment Wednesday night (July 16) when he accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2014 ESPY awards.
After an introduction by Kiefer Sutherland and a touching video package that documented his long battle with cancer, Scott gave an honest and inspiring speech to the crowd about his daily fight and those who have stood beside him, including his girlfriend, daughters and co-workers.
“When you die, that does not mean that you lose to cancer,” he tells the audience. “You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live. So live. Live. Fight like h*** and when you get too tired to fight, lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you.”
Of course, he also took a little time to have some fun with his speech, noting how exciting it was to have “24: Live Another Day” hero Jack Bauer introduce him.

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
