Check out this full-length trailer for “The Wolverine,” the dark backstory of one of the most popular X-Men. The longer version of the trailer — a teaser was released earlier this week — shows the action largely taking place in modern-day Japan.

Apparently, during World War II (seen via flashback), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) saved a Japanese soldier by shielding him from one of the atomic bombs. Now that man, who is elderly and wealthy, is trying to give Wolverine a normal life.

By the end of the trailer, Wolverine is hurt and realizes that he isn’t healing the way he normally would. Does this spell the end for our superhero? Also, check out the Famke Janssen cameo as Wolverine’s lady love Jean Grey.

“The Wolverine” flies into theaters on July 26.
