Will Smith finally has said goodbye to his onscreen uncle. The one-time “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” whose co-star James Avery passed away on Dec. 31 at age 65, has joined in outpouring of love from his former TV family.

Smith, who played a version of himself on the series, took to his personal Facebook account to write a goodbye to Avery. He also posted a photo (above) of the last time he and Avery were joined by the “Fresh Prince” cast.

“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace,” Smith writes.

This is Smith’s first response to Avery’s death. A fake tweet has made the rounds from a Twitter account claiming to be Smith’s, though he only uses Facebook as social media.

Meanwhile, Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, said goodbye to Avery on Facebook as well. “James Avery who we all lovingly know as Uncle Phil from ‘The Fresh Prince’ has passed. Our condolences to aunt Florence (his mother), Miss Barbara (his wife) and all those who loved him,” she wrote.
