david morrissey the walking dead amc Will the Governor return to 'The Walking Dead'? David Morrissey teases: 'We just have to wait and see'

The Governor might be dead on “The Walking Dead,” but is he gone forever? That’s a question that David Morrissey is surprisingly hesitant to answer.

In an interview with PA, Morrissey teases that the Governor might actually come back in some form. “Something happened to him. I feel like a shady politician where I can’t confirm and I can’t deny anything,” he hedges. “Certainly, bad things befell him at the end of the last episode but we just have to wait and see.”

It does seem unlikely that the Governor will be back on the show. Gale Anne Hurd confirmed that the villain is definitely dead, and the headshot makes his return as a zombie impossible. Maybe Lilly will keep his head as a trophy or something, but Morrissey is likely just teasing his fans.

The Brit has nothing but kind things to say about the viewers of “The Walking Dead.” Even the ones who don’t like him because of his character are fans that Morrissey treasures.

“‘The Walking Dead’ really has introduced me to a massive fanbase all over the world. It’s one of the biggest shows on TV,” he says. “My fanbase in America has really grown, and I love that — they’re very vocal fans, and amazing and I find it so heart-warming to be amongst them — even though they boo me because I’m the villain! But that means I’m doing a good job.”

Morrissey adds, “It’s a show that really does punch large and I’m very proud to be associated with [it]. I love being on ‘The Walking Dead,’ I love playing The Governor and it’s given me such a great connection with the public.”

“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Feb. 9 at 9 p.m.
