woody harrelson getty Woody Harrelson, his valuable time and a hoard of angry Reddit usersEvery once in awhile (actually, fairly often) something happens where we are reminded about the isolated, insulated cocoon in which celebrities reside. Someone tweets something they probably think is innocuous and funny and suddenly the internet has exploded and no matter if that person deletes the tweet, it still exists out there for all the world to see because no doubt, some user somewhere got a screengrab and some publicist somewhere is losing his or her mind.

Here is another one of those times.

Actor Woody Harrelson decided to take part in a Reddit AMA chat. The AMA stands for “Ask Me Anything.” “Parks and Rec” star Aziz Ansari did one back in October that was insightful, funny and a joy for everyone involved.

But that’s because Aziz Ansari clearly knows how to behave outside of his little bubble of people who tell him he’s awesome all the time.

Reddit users are not members of the press. They do not want to participate in a chat called “Ask Me Anything” and then only get answers pertaining to your latest movie.

The chat really went off the rails when a user asks Woody, “I swear this is a true story. I went to a high school in LA and you
crashed our prom after party (Universal Hilton). You ended up taking the
virginity of a girl named Roseanna. You didn’t call her afterwards. She
cried a lot. Do you remember any of this and can confirm or have you
been so knee deep in hollywood pooty for so long that this qualifies as a
mere blip?”

Now, maybe not the best question to ask, but it’s an “Ask Me Anything” and Woody should have deflected, been funny and moved on. Instead –

Harrelson responds, “First off, its not true, and second off, I don’t want to answer questions about that. Lets focus on the film people.” (He’s promoting his movie “Rampart”.)

Talk about waving a red flag in front of an angry bull.

But then a user comments, “Should change this AMA to AMAAR (Ask Me Anything About Rampart)” and Woody responds with a typical celebrity response that shows no self-awareness and no awareness of how the world (or internet) works – “We gotta be…I consider my time valuable.”

Responses to that comment include:

  • “You should just quit while you’re ahead, you’re losing fans by the
second here. Absolutely no way I’m going to go see this movie.”
  • “reddit isn’t a publicity stunt. we’re not here for your free advertising.”
  • “I consider my time valuable also, d***.”
  • “How f****** DARE you expect me to answer your s***** questions. My life is more important than yours! F*** you and see my movie.”

Celebrities: Still figuring out how the internet works and that perhaps not everyone in the world thinks they poop gold nuggets.
