Previously on: John Cena and Brock Lesnar weren’t there, but the pre-produced video segments WWE put together told the story of their feud better than the men ever could on their own. Meanwhile, Stephanie McMahon pedigreed the Bella Twins in preparation for her upcoming match.
The big news:
Cena and Lesnar were back for the last “WWE Raw”
before “SummerSlam.” The show kicked off with Lesnar and Paul Heyman, as they walked to the ring to tell the world that Cena will be done away with once and for all at “SummerSlam.” Heyman even rapped.
When Cena had his rebuttal later in the show, he promised that Brock would not win, because he refuses to lose. He even threw out a few curse words and challenged Lesnar to come fight him now. It was good fire from Cena, though he’s normally pretty good at that. When Cena gets into hype mode, there’s not many who can match that intensity.
The feud between Brie Bella and Stephanie McMahon got a lot more personal. Stephanie introduced Daniel Bryan’s physical therapist, who claims she’s having an affair with Brie’s husband. That leads to Brie attacking her and Stephanie. Honestly, this wasn’t needed to sell this match for “SummerSlam.” It’s obviously going to be a fake out, and seeing as Brie and Daniel are legitimately married it seems odd.
Stephanie also decided to have their match on “Raw,” or at least that’s what she wanted Brie to believe. Instead, she has Brie arrested. The physical therapist is pressing charges after Brie’s attack. Now Brie knows exactly what Stephanie felt like when she was cuffed. What a horrible corporate executive Stephanie is. Someone should really let human resources know what’s happening.
No Chris Jericho or Bray Wyatt live on “Raw” this week. Instead, they were featured in a pre-taped “interview.” there really wasn’t much interviewing going on, but the two delivered very quiet and powerful promos to each other. Without the rest of the Wyatt Family to serve as a distraction at “SummerSlam,” the match between these two should be something special.
As with the previous two weeks, the main event wasn’t a match. This time it was Hulk Hogan’s birthday celebration, including special appearances by Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Jimmy Hart and Paul Orndorff. Nash and Hall were even wearing their NWO colors, which was quite a bit of fun. They’re also both more grey than Hogan will ever be. Even Hulk ripped off his red and yellow to show he was also sporting a NWO shirt.
Then the celebrations ended when Lesnar’s music hit and he made his way to the ring, staring at Hogan. Before he could do anything, Cena ran to the ring, though. Instead of fighting, Lesnar bailed. He’s saving his fight for “SummerSlam.”
Odds and ends:
- Dolph Ziggler wearing a Miz T-shirt is a nice touch to their feud.
- Paige is not a very good poet.
- When’s the last time Heath Slater had two wins in a row?
- Dean Ambrose was hiding in a present, like this was WWE in the early 2000s or something.
- Corporate Kane was back and pointless as ever.
- No Damien Sandow this week. There’s no telling what sort of costume he was wearing at home.
- Roman Reigns beat Rybaxel by DQ
- Seth Rollins beat RVD
- Jack Swagger beat Cesaro
- Eva Marie beat A.J. Lee
- Heath Slater beat Dolph Ziggler by count out
- Randy Orton beat Sheamus
