The “Star Trek Into Darkness” and “Avatar” actress has landed the lead role in NBC’s miniseries “Rosemary’s Baby,” an adaptation of Ira Levin‘s 1967 thriller. She’ll play Rosemary, a young wife who becomes pregnant and begins to suspect that her husband and her neighbors in her Paris apartment building are planning something strange for her child.

Scott Abbott and James Wong are writing the script for the miniseries, and Agnieszka Holland will direct. Production is set to begin later this month.

Levin’s bestseller was previously adapted for a 1968 film directed by Roman Polanski and starring Mia Farrow — and her very short, pixie haircut. NBC has repeatedly called its version of “Rosemary’s Baby” a “reimagining” of the source material, which presumably could involve reimagining Rosemary’s hairstyle too. That said, she could probably pull off such a short style — she’s often photographed with her hair up and looks no worse for it.

What do you think of the casting of Saldana, and of the chances she’ll mimic Farrow’s look?
