Actress Ariel Winter told Glamour magazine in Aug. 2015 that she’d be gone under the knife for breast-reduction surgery, and the starlet is nothing but proud to show off how happy she is with her new figure.
On Oct. 12, the “Modern Family” star tweeted a picture of her and boyfriend, Laurent Claude Gaudette, attending a family wedding, while wearing a form-fitted sleek white wrap dress.
“My Czech shmooey spending a weekend with us Greeks for the wedding,” the caption read on Instagram. Her self-assured smile and ease wearing a dress that left little to the imagination is something new for the 17-year-old, who in June, made the brave decision to go from a size 32F cup to a 34D.
“Girls are tweeting me and saying like, ‘Oh, this wouldn’t be accepted where I am, but now that you did it and opened a conversation about it, I can actually like talk to my friends and family about the possibility of this,’ ” she tells PEOPLE. “Or, ‘I’ve been living with so much back pain, and I’ve been so humiliated so many times when I had to wear something that was so baggy because I couldn’t wear the things my friends were wearing because it was inappropriate on me.”
Not only was the constant media scrutinization of Winter’s physical appearance exhausting but she had to deal with nagging neck and back pain, “I really couldn’t stand up straight for a long period of time,” she admits to Glamour.
A depressing shopping trip to a bathing suit store was the final straw. “I didn’t feel happy. I just kept saying, ‘What am I going to wear?’ There’s nothing for me to wear at the beach, at the pool.”
Winter has no regrets about having the surgery. “People start looking me in the eye,” she explained, and she wants to celebrate her smaller yet, still voluptuous physique. “I have always been a curvier girl. I enjoy being a curvier girl. I have a big butt. I didn’t want to have a big butt and no boobs!”
Winter first debuted her post-surgery body on the red carpet at the 2015 Emmy Awards, and that bright smile has yet to leave her face.”Everyone is really happy for me and has been super supportive,” Winter concluded, speaking of her friends, family and “Modern Family” co-stars. “They understand I’ve been struggling with this for so many years.”
