Bethenny Frankel is in hot water, after going on a Twitter rant that many are viewing as racist.
The “Real Housewives of New York City” star, who has built a small empire out of her Skinny Girl products and reality shows like “Bethenny Ever After” and “Bethenny Getting Married,” might consider titling her next show “Bethenny Apologizes.” On Friday (Jan. 22) she found herself in a Kmart and apparently grew frustrated by the employees’ inability to speak English — and that’s when her cell phone came out.
“Wow @Kmart has 2 registers open w 5 other employees standing around & two speak no English whatsoever,” she tweets. “Shoes are sapatos right?”
Technically, Frankel means “zapatos,” the Spanish word for shoes. But to make matters worse, a follow-up tweet from the reality show mom reads: “Not even attempting kids’ snow boots in spanish.”
Frankel is raising eyebrows, not only for badmouthing Spanish-speaking employees who make a sliver of her yearly salary trying to get by with a Kmart job, but also because she recently signed a huge deal to sell her Skinny Girl products at rival department store Walmart.
The 45-year-old entrepreneur was quickly taken to task by her Twitter followers. “Wow bethenny never took you as a racist,” one writes in response.
