When Chrissy Teigen underwent IVF in order to have her first child with husband John Legend, she was also given the chance to make a very important decision about their baby. Teigen got to select the gender of their impending bundle of joy.

Speaking to People, Teigen admits, “I’ve made this decision. Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.'”

For Teigen, the reason to have a girl is a simple one. I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl,” she says. “I think he deserves a little girl. I think he deserves that bond.”

She continues, “A boy will come along. We’ll get there too, so it’s not like we really have to pick. But he definitely is very lucky to have a little girl. And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa — it’s crazy!”

Teigen has been open about undergoing the process of IVF and the struggles she and Legend went through to have a baby since September, when she broke the news on “FABLife.” Since then the couple couldn’t be more excited about preparing to have a baby around the house.

In fact, the “Lip Sync Battle” co-host sees just the kind of dad Legend is going to be based on how good he is to their dog Putty. “He never suspected he could love something like that ever,” she reveals. “So it’s so funny seeing him interact with them and knowing that’s the way he’s going to speak to our kid.”

Legend and Teigen’s baby girl is due in the spring.
