In legal documents obtained by TMZ, Christian Slater is being sued by his father, Thomas Knight Slater, to the tune of $20 million dollars in a defamation lawsuit.
Slater’s dad, who goes by the stage name Michael Hawkins, claims that after his son mentioned the he suffered from “manic-depressive schizophrenia” in Interview magazine last year, his career tanked.
In the June 2015 interview, Slater said of his 80-year-old father, “He’s always had trouble — he was a fantastic actor and extraordinarily charismatic and very, very good looking, but he had a really difficult time working with directors, collaborating with people.”
Slater also said that after 9 years of not talking to his father, that their relationship was finally on the mend. “My father actually reached out to me and wanted to reconcile and reconnect,” Slater says.
He continues, “I was very grateful to be able to communicate with him. From a tumultuous, back-and-forth relationship, we were able to begin to build a better bridge for the both of us. So that was good”
Well, now things aren’t looking so good.
Hawkins, who once starred on the soap opera “As the World Turns,” and had small roles in such films as “Amityville Horror” and “Mommie Dearest,” claims that he was “blacklisted” in Hollywood after being called a schizophrenic by his famous son.
He has allegedly been unable resurrect his career in the “autumn of his life” due what he says are slanderous comments with zero medical diagnostic proof.
