One look at overnight superstar Daisy Ridley, you would never know she’s been suffering from a chronic illness since the age of 15. But on Thursday (June 9), the “Star Wars” actress posted a lengthy message to all her fans on Instagram, opening up for the first time about her endometriosis diagnosis.

Ridley details the painstaking years it took to even first figure out what it was that was ailing her. After eight years, she finally discovered the pain in question was being caused by polycystic ovaries. After receiving guidance from a dermatologist, eliminating sugar and dairy products from her diet, the 24-year-old is finally feeling better about herself and confident in her skin.

While she sometimes gets frustrated with the laundry list of responsibilities that comes with managing this kind of illness, Ridley credits her supportive friends and family for reminding her of what’s most important.

Ridley’s brave post encourages people to “go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing,” basically getting the message across to take care of one’s body. It’s hard to imagine this stunningly beautiful woman has ever struggled with bad skin, and it’s humbling to discover how hard she must work to manage her healthy look while always being in the spotlight.

She continues, “From your head to the tips of your toes we only have one body, let us all make sure ours are working in tip top condition, and take help if it’s needed.”

Rock on, Ridley. Rock on.
