The water crisis in Flint, Mich., has been making headlines recently, as President Obama declared the city to be in a state of emergency after discovering children are getting poisoned from the water contaminated with lead that the city has been getting from the Flint River. It is even thought to be the cause of an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease. But the people of Flint are about to get some serious celebrity help.
Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs and actor Mark Wahlberg, who both partly own AQUAhydrate, a Los Angeles-based water bottle company, have pledged to donate 1 million bottles to Flint. Their donation promise to send 5,000 cases of water by Wednesday (Jan. 27).
This charitable act is following suit of many other celebrities that are struggling to understand how the budget-slashing city decided to keep pulling water from the Flint River, even after people complained of its odd smell and to be suffering from mysterious illnesses. Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, Cher, Pearl Jam, Meek Mill, Jack White and Big Sean have all made sizable donations to help the innocent victims suffering from the contaminated water.
