On Saturday, Dec. 5, Maksim Chmerkovskiy got down on one knee and proposed to fellow “Dancing With the Stars” pro, Peta Murgatroyd.
On a huge dance floor, (of course), in front of a large crowd in Miami FL., at the “Sway: A Dance Trilogy” performance at the Olympia Theater, he said to her, “I’m in love with you, and I will be in love with you for the rest of my life.”
He posted her response on his Instagram account later that night: “She said ‘yes.'”
“I kind of knew a couple of years ago,” the 35-year-old Ukrainian dancing pro told US Magazine. “But it’s a process. With this family, the hardest part of the process was to keep it a secret. …this was definitely the best decision I ever made.”
And Murgatroyd, 29-years-old, is elated. “I can’t tell you how happy I am,” she says. “I was completely shocked. I’m just overwhelmed with it all right now.”
The couple dated for 10 months in 2012 and 2013, and were again on and off throughout 2015.
Maksim’s younger brother, Val, is excited his brother finally put a ring on it, telling US Magazine, “Peta’s been part of the family for so long, it was a natural thing, but it was (also) an overdue thing. We were all waiting for it. But I think when it happens it’s fairly surreal and it’s beautiful.”
