Gwendoline Christie is the face of Vivienne Westwood’s winter 2015-16 fashion campaign, and the first images from the Juergen Teller-shot photo shoot show why the “Game of Thrones” and “Star Wars” actress is the perfect fit for Westwood’s women’s and men’s “Unisex” collections.
The concept of the Unisex collections is that the same suit or dress could be worn by a man or woman. “Trousers for women, yes!” Westwood says in a statement. “Dresses for men, the same dresses that women wear? Do that! Dresses without a woman’s waist! Then you, the woman, look like a king or queen (from history or a parallel universe) — you the man look like a king or queen! It’s so sexual because it’s new, it makes you look at the person from outside, it’s all so sexual because we’re looking at people with new eyes.”
Christie is typically covered in armor and dirt on “Game of Thrones,” so it’s no surprise the stunning 6′ 3″ actress takes the time to do something a bit more feminine in her time away from the show. She previously collaborated with Westwood back in March to walk the runway at the designer’s Paris Fashion Week show.
Westwood recently dressed Christie for “Game of Thrones'” San Diego Comic-Con panel with a couture white dress.
“I have admired Vivienne Westwood ever since I can remember for her revolutionary mind and exquisitely rebellious design — so it was a great privilege to fulfill a childhood dream and work not only with her, but with Andreas her partner in all things, and with Juergen Teller,” Christie says of the winter campaign. “I love the Unisex theme of this collection. It is so relevant for Vivienne Westwood to reassert her activist mindset and create a collection that takes us beyond our current gender stereotypes with beauty and intelligence.”
