The news of Amber Heard filing for divorce from Johnny Depp on Monday (May 23) wasn’t too shocking. But on Friday, the 30-year-old actress went to court with a shiner on her face and was granted a temporary restraining order against Depp, after alleging domestic abuse. Things became both very surprising and seriously devastating.
The he said, she said continued to fill the news and both Depp and Heard have since lawyered up. Depp’s daughter, Lily Rose took to Instagram on Sunday to defend her famous father. “My Dad is the sweetest most loving person I know,” she captioned. “He’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”
These are some choice words that seem to directed towards Heard and those believing her claims. On the same morning, a letter obtained by TMZ — written by Vanessa Paradis, for whom Depp was with from 1998 to 2012 — spoke out in defense of her ex long term partner.
“Johnny Depp is the father of my two children, he is a sensitive, loving, and loved person, and I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous. In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I live with for 14 wonderful years.”
Also, stepping up to defend Depp is his first wife, Lori Anne Allison. Calling him a “soft person,” and kind to even kind to animal, she tells TMZ. Allison remains friend with Depp and is steadfast in her belief that he would never lay a hand on anyone.
Heard has cited two instances of violence. One physical altercation happening during her birthday party on April 21, and another taking place on Saturday, May 21. During this instance, she alleges that Depp “wound up his arm life a baseball pitcher,” smashing her iPhone into her face while he was high and drunk.
Police told US Weekly that when they arrived to the couple’s LA home, they saw no evidence of domestic abuse. However, sometimes it can take days for bruises to show up, and if Heard got nervous and scared to tell the cops what happened, then there would be no case to report. Most people will probably not want to believe any of this is true as to not soil the image they have of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” star.
At first, Depp remained silent with all the news breaking just three days after his mother’s death, but he’s now got celebrity defender Laura Wasser on his side. The same lawyer who is dealing with Khloe Kardashian’s public divorce, says that Heard is “attempting to secure premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.”
The 52-year-old actor has rejected Heard’s request for spousal support, and in a letter to CNN, Wasser defends her client, “Johnny cannot protect himself or Amber from media scrutiny, and Amber’s anger cannot drive this dissolution proceeding.” A representative for Depp says that he hopes everything “will be resolved quickly, and will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies about his personal life.”
One can only hope Heard’s plea of domestic violence is not a calculated way to ensure spousal support. At the same time, one also prays that Depp is not a violent and abusive person. While the truth will eventually surface, the current proceedings are both sad and a lose, lose situation for everyone involved.
